My partner found out this place from an inflight magazine, and then we browsed on the internet about the place. It was February 2003, monsoon. The person from the chartered airline informed us to consider to reschedule the trip. But we decided to go.
An early flight from Jakarta to Semarang by Garuda Indonesia. As soon as we landed on the airport a lady from KuraKura Aviation picked us up as we stepped down the airplane. Cool! Such important people. She took us in special car to a lounge and serve us fresh drink. She accompanied us for about 10 minutes and then escorting us to their plane. She told us that the plane we supposed to take was being repaired and the replacement was more smaller one and the speed boad was away to Jepara and only big wooden boat available. She will return our money because of it. We dont mind. Well, my partner a bit scare but I convinced him we will be fine.
A very small plane indeed. Single propeller, one seat for pilot, one seat for mechanic, two seat for me and partner. That's it. We are ready to fly up north to cross sea to Karimun Jawa Islands. The weather was ok. Clear view. Only for 30 minutes we landed in the biggest island, Menyawakan. A man picked us up there, took us in a car. A minibus one. He told us that we gonna stop at the pier to pick up some German divers who head to the same resort with us.
There were six scientist from German. Doing underwater research. It was not their first time. They kind of surprise to know Indonesian like us come to such the place. At first they thought I was from Philippines and my partner from Japan. He he he.
Driving along the island from west to east for another 30 minutes. Crossing the forest in very small road, but not a bumpy one. Even better than in Jakarta. As we arrived, a big wooden boat waiting for us. Not too bad, but I prefer to sit up above the roof. To feel the fresh air. My partner sit inside. After 15 minutes sailing, storm hitting us, heavy rain and very windy. I went down to my partner. Most people got sea sick. I tried my best to hold the handle and holding my partner's hand. We all got wet. Thank God it last for another 15 minutes and we finally arrived at the pier. The girls pick up us and handed us fresh orange juice and garland. Nice. They escorting us to the room.
My partner hit the bed directly. I changed my chlothes and get out of the room. I kind of hungry. I walk along to the restaurant. They asked me nicely whether I want to have lunch at the restaurant or in the room. I had my lunch there. She told me that only 10 people on the island, me, my partner, 6 divers, she and a cook. Wow. The resort is owned by Swedish and already there for 6 years. No detergen allowed. We can only use soap and shampoo fro the resort. The most natural products to prevent polluting the sea. Very thoughtful.
I returned to the room and got my partner waiting for me, hungry. Oops. Sorry hone. I was out for too long. I ordered him lunch and afterward we went out to the beach which is only 10 steps away from our room. The most interesting one is, our room is built in circle shape, made from wood and glass. From inside, we can see through the outside from our bed. But from the outside, we can't see anything inside. That's what we called privacy. Hehehe.
Spending the time sunbathing, cold beer, just two of us. All the divers went down under water. It is heaven on earth. It was five days four nights. Perfect time to be together to the place where not so many people know. Even the sea water a bit cold because of the season, it is still nice. We sailed back to Menyawakan using speed boat for only 20 minutes, and then drive back to the airport. We have to declare that we dont take any stone, shell, and wood with us before we boarding. The flight back to Semarang was another extreme adventure. We almost cancel the trip due to the very bad weather. Luckily after waiting for half day, the plane is permitted to take off. We arrived in Semarang and the staff from KuraKura Aviation and KuraKura Resorts apology for any inconvenience and thank us for taking the time with them.
A good experience, but it is not a backpacking trip. Kind of more than luxury one. The best vacation ever with my love one.
